For those who are interested in studying postgraduate medicine, I am sure you know that you have to be geared up with a substantial amount of work experience. You could work in a care home or a a hospital Some charities are looking for volunteers to help people with conditions such as stroke, parkinsons, MS etc but they would probably want a longer term commitment. So as well as gaining at least a 2.1 at the end of your degree, medical schools also desire a fair amount of work experience. A medical admissions tutor of Tooting University said that in his university you need [/u]at least[u] two years worth of work experience.

Norwood - Children and Families First
Unity Volunteer

Duties and Responsibilities

UNITY is a service offered to learning disabled children aged between 5-18years old. Clubs are run on Tuesday & Sunday afternoon and we run play schemes during Spring, Summer & Winter and volunteers are always needed. The centre provides service users with a wide range of activities including painting, outdoor play, ballpond, puzzles, sensory room etc.

Skills and Experience Required

A unity volunteer must be able to show dedication and consistency and have empathy for children less fortunate than themselves.

Working Hours

3 hours weekly/fortnightly

Location of Work

Hendon/Redbridge

Contract Length

6-12 months

Salary/Rate of Pay

voluntary position

The Charities Advisory Trust
Charity Shop Assistant

Duties and Responsibilities

To promote and sell a range of our projects and products including Peace Oil and Good Gifts. Volunteer will be vital in helping to raise funds for a variety of worthwhile causes. Energy and Enthusiasm will be used in selling products and providing customer service and informing shoppers about the Trust's work. Also, assisting with cash handling and gnerally with day to day running of the shop. Promotion of the shop is also a key area they will be involved in.

Skills and Experience Required

Enthusiasm and energy. We will give candidates all the training they need.

Working Hours

Flexible, ideally a morning or afternoon every week but would be fantastic if this could be more!

Location of Work

Covent Garden, London - Two minutes away from Covent Garden Tube

Contract Length

1-3 months

Salary/Rate of Pay

Voluntary
